Georgia can up trade relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey

Turkey and Azerbaijan are Georgia's largest trade partners. The total trade turnover between the three countries is several hundred million dollars, but there is a reserve, Georgian minister of economy Vera Kobalia said. She made the statement on Monday in an interview with Georgian journalists following a meeting of businessmen from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia, which took place in Kars (Turkey) last Saturday.

Up to 300 business people gathered in Kars, where the Georgian-Turkish-Azerbaijani business forum took place. The economic ministers of the three countries attended. Kobalia said that all three countries are ready to increase trade turnover.

"The theme of the meeting was the intensification of the trade relations between our countries and improving the investment climate," she said.

The Georgian minister said that her country is interested in attracting Azerbaijani and Turkish investments.

"These countries have been actively investing in our economy, but there is a reserve especially in the energy sector, agriculture and tourism," she said. "I think that the meetings of business people will develop trade relations and attract investments."

"This road will provide a new trade route between Europe and Asia and we can deliver goods in this direction," she said.

The Minister stressed that the railway connecting the three countries will be commissioned in Kars in a few months.

The matter rests in the benefits to be received by all three countries by commissioning the railway.

The next business forum will be held in this format in Azerbaijan. The first such meeting was held in Tbilisi.
