U.S. Secretary of State starts meetings in Georgia

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who arrived in Batumi last night, starts official program of the visit to Georgia on June 5.

Clinton will hold official meetings on June 5.

At 9:00 on Tuesday, Clinton together with Georgian Prime Minister will co-chair a meeting within the Georgian-US Charter on Strategic Partnership. The meeting will discuss a wide range of issues, based on the fact that the Charter envisages cooperation in many spheres.

However, the meeting will focus on political issues and discussions on elections.
Within the Charter on Strategic Partnership meetings of the working groups on defense and security, democracy and governance, economy, energy and trade, as well as cultural exchange will be held.

After that, Clinton will meet with representatives of the third sector, and then with opposition leaders. The Christian-Democratic Movement, "New Right" and "Georgian dream" Coalition will be represented at the meeting with Clinton.

Bidzina Ivanishvili, who wished to meet with Clinton, will not attend the meeting.

After the meetings Clinton will visit the ceremony of transfer of two Coast Guard cutters to Georgia by the U.S. side.

In the afternoon, Clinton will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, followed by a joint briefing.

A concert will be given in honor of Clinton on the Piazza Square in Batumi in the evening

U.S. Secretary of State will leave Georgia on June 6 in the morning and will depart from Batumi to Baku.
