Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Cicek Cemil said Ankara can freeze relations with the European Union, Sabah newspaper reported.
"If the presidency of the EU is given to Cyprus, Ankara's relations with the EU may be frozen," Cicek said. South Cyprus is expected to chair the EU from July 1.
Turkey-EU cooperation began with the Ankara agreement signed in 1964. The EU announced that the Copenhagen criteria set in 2002 is the key to Turkey's EU membership. Turkey carried out large judicial and political reforms under the criteria. Since 2005, the sides began formal discussions regarding Turkey's entry the EU.
