Georgia's tourism project failed

02 April 2012 [13:15] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia started losing the race for regional leadership in the tourism sector. According to Georgian media, the government of this country failed the project of creation of a tourist area in Kobuleti (Adjarian Autonomy) which included construction of 30 hotels by the summer of 2012. In reality, only three hotels are under construction and their opening is scheduled for this June.

Tengiz Zoidze, representative of the Government of Adjara, admitted that, despite the offer of the most favorable conditions for investors, the project has not been realized yet. He hopes the situation will improve after the holiday season of 2012.

In turn, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Vera Kobalia personally offered to Ukrainian businessmen to build hotels in Kobuleti, but so far it did not work.

It is obvious that without the mass Russian tourist the tourism sector of Georgia is doomed to stagnation: the Black Sea is "too cold" for tourists from other European countries. Azerbaijani tourists who love to spend vacation in Batumi (Ajaria) will hardly change the situation because of their small number.
