Gasoline prices up in Georgia

14 February 2012 [12:30] - TODAY.AZ
Oil companies operating in Georgia increased gasoline prices. All companies increased the price of gasoline by 5 Tetri, which is about 3 cents. Now gasoline costs 2.15-2.30 lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari) in Georgia, depending on the quality of gasoline.

As the Union of Importers, Exporters and Producers of Petroleum Products of Georgia said, the cause of an increase in prices of petroleum products is the situation in the international market.

According to the Union, a rise in oil prices was recorded after December 2011 at the international exchange, and therefore, the rise in fuel price was not excluded also in the Georgian market.

Meanwhile, several opposition parties demand lower prices for petroleum products, arguing that their cost is too high in Georgia by 20-25 Tetri on average. They accuse President Mikheil Saakashvili of pandering to oil oligarchs.
