Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in German newspaper`s spotlight

German newspaper Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung has published an article on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The article, titled A conflict in the Eurovision country, provides an insight into the causes and consequences of the conflict.The newspaper says most of the Europeans do not know that Azerbaijan`s lands were occupied by Armenia.

The newspaper says the Armenian armed forces occupied the Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions of Azerbaijan, carrying out an ethnic cleansing policy. The newspaper goes on to say that the conflict saw the killing of 20,000 Azerbaijanis, with over million people becoming refugees and IDPs.

The article also features an interview with a resident of Khojaly, a town whose residents were massacred by the Armenians. According to the newspaper, the Khojaly genocide saw the massacre of hundreds of innocent people, including women, children and the old.

The newspaper also stressed Armenia`s non-constructive position, saying the country was using a stalling tactics in the negotiations process.  The article says Azerbaijan is making every possible effort towards

finding a peaceful solution to the problem, and that the country is closely cooperating with the European Union to this end. The newspaper also praises Azerbaijan`s role in ensuring energy security of Europe.
