Democratic Party Chairman: Too difficult to unite Azerbaijani opposition after intrigue

17 February 2011 [16:25] - TODAY.AZ
It is very difficult to unite the opposition after so much intrigue, Azerbaijani opposition Democratic Party Chairman Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend today.

"Intrigue among chairmen of the parties “Musavat”, “Umid” and “Citizens and Development Party” - Isa Gambar, Ali Aliyev and Igbal Aghazade - create difficulties in their unification," Jalaloglu added.

According to him, at present a constructive position is held in the unification Musavat Party.

"Against the background of the processes occurring in the world Musavat Party has realized the necessity of unification, in spite of everything. Isa Gambar said earlier that Igbal Aghazade, being MP, cannot join the Public Chamber. But now the situation has changed," he said.

Jalaloglu said that one must take into consideration not mutual relations, but national interests in politics. Therefore, the Democratic Party Chairman considers Musavat’s current position as correct.

The leaders of six opposition parties have discussed unification last week. Head of the Musavat Party Isa Gambar, Chairman of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, Chairman of the Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu, Chairman of the Citizens and Development Party Ali Aliyev, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Liberal Party Evez Temirkhan, and Chairman of the Umid Party, MP Iqbal Aghazade participated in the discussion.

They exchanged their views on various models of integration. Similar meetings will be held periodically. The public will be informed about the acceptable model.

Jalaloglu said that during the meeting the parties’ chairmen put forward certain proposals and currently the parties evaluate the proposals.
