"First and foremost, political and military leaders of Armenia deceive their own people making such statements," Azerbaijani political expert Ildirim Mammadov said commenting on remarks of Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan claiming that “Armenia will count on its own power if hostilities resume in Karabakh.”
"There's a good Azerbaijani proverb which says that "a dog asleep in the shadow of the mountain thinks that it is its shadow".
“In fact, the same thing happens with Armenia. The country’s leadership lies so much, that it has come to believe in its own words. Everybody knows to whom Armenia owes its creation and existence,” the expert said.
Historically, the wars have been waged by economies, rather than people. Armenia has no economy and what now exists in the country belongs either to Iran or Russia, the expert noted.
"Therefore, it is unclear how they are going to wage war if it begins. Armenia does not represent anything on its own. The country has been ruled by former citizens of Azerbaijan for many years. Many political experts in Armenia admit that these people were not elected by people, but actually seized the power in Yerevan. Armenian political elite should be ashamed for this," the expert added.
Mammadov says if hostilities erupt between Azerbaijan and Armenia, from theoretical viewpoint, Armenia will be able to wage a war from three days to two weeks at most.
"They think that they have created a "Mozhino line" or "Siegfried Line." But, in fact, it's all nonsense. They forget that in today's world there are ways of waging non-contact or asymmetric wars. As proverb goes, "a clever man will never climb a mountain, but will bypass it." Yerevan represents nothing without outside help. Therefore, they should ponder on what kind of assistance they hope for from abroad.”
”In spite of everything, of course, Baku does not wish a war. The war will certainly harm both of us. Loss of human life is not avoidable in this case,” the expert said.
“But for Armenia, the war means the threat of losing its own statehood. Therefore, Yerevan should stop this self-deception, de-occupy 7 occupied regions around the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region and start decent peace talks," Mammadov noted.
