"Deepening of relations with Azerbaijan is of great importance for Austria"

President Fischer hosted a New Year reception for the Vienna diplomatic corps on Monday, Austrian news agency APA reported.

"The continuation of the EU enlargement, and a deepening of relations with the countries of the Eastern Partnership, including with Azerbaijan, is of great relevance to his country," Fischer said during the reception.

Eastern Partnership is a Polish-Swedish initiative under the neighborhood policy, aimed at improving the EU's relations with former Soviet countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. Under the program, the EU will provide neighboring countries 600 million euros until 2013. The "Eastern Partnership" Founding Summit was held on May 7, 2009 in Prague.
