12 January 2011 [13:45] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan may disseminate the OSCE Minsk Group field assessment mission's report in the UN about the situation in the occupied territories.

"After the mission presents its report about the situation in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, the country's permanent mission to the UN may disseminate it in the organization," Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev told Trend over phone from New York.

The OSCE Assessment Mission examined the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan at Azerbaijan's initiative. The mediators are expected to submit a report on the situation in the occupied lands in January.

Discussing of the mission's report can not be included in the agenda of the General Assembly, as this is the OSCE document. However, Azerbaijan  can organize its discussions at various levels by request, he said.

Previously, the Azerbaijani side has put forward a draft resolution on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for discussion at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, but later it withdrew it from the agenda.

In one of the points of the draft resolution, Azerbaijan urges UN to call for the OSCE to send the assessment mission to the Azerbaijani occupied territories to clarify the situation on the scene. But since the visit of the mission took place, the Azerbaijani side decided to wait for its report and set a date for the discussions only after familiarizing with it, he said.
