PFPA demands Musavat party to declare official position on unification

11 January 2011 [17:33] - TODAY.AZ
The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) demands the Musavat Party to declare its official position on the issue of unification.

"Musavat party must officially declare its positive or negative decision on unification. If Musavat has really decided not to unite, it must have official character," PFPA Deputy Chairman Nureddin Mammadli told Trend today.

Musavat head Isa Gambar proposed to unite the parties, following the course of Rasulzadeh-Elchibey on July 15 at the 21st anniversary event of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan. At the congress of the PFPA held on Sept. 25, the initiative was supported.

However, the head of the central executive office of the Musavat Party, Arif Hajili, told Trend on Monday that Musavat Party's assembly has decided to refuse unification with the PPFA and further deepen partnership with the party. Musavat Party's assembly is its supreme authority and its decision reflects party's position.

According to Mammadli, Hajili's statements don't reflect reality.

"This is conflicting information, because, after the assembly meeting we were informed that resolving of this issue is left until the congress. According to the charter, this issue is included in the authority of the congress. We have officially presented the decision of the party's congress to them and now we are waiting for their official statement," Mammadov said.
