"New Azerbaijan Party's position significantly strengthened in 2010"

24 December 2010 [12:45] - TODAY.AZ
Deputy chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) described 2010 as successful for the party.
"In 2010, NAP's position significantly strengthened on the backdrop of the socio-political events. It is possible to say surely that the NAP enters 2011 with high hopes," deputy chairman of the NAP, MP Ali Ahmedov said in an interview to the ruling party's website.

According to him, more than 20,000 new members have joined the party during the year.

"The number of young people in the ranks of the NAP is rapidly growing. The predominance of young people among the new members in 2010 creates opportunities for the development prospects of the party in the future," said Ahmedov.

According to Ahmedov, the main political event in 2010 is considered the November parliamentary elections. According to the results of the elections, 71 YAP members gained MP seats, which amount to more than 50% of all parliamentary seats.
According to Ahmedov, the pre-election campaign has once again confirmed the truth, which is not new in Azerbaijan.

"The fact that on the backdrop of growing public authority of the NAP, the position of the opposition, particularly its most aggressive side, is gradually weakening has found its reflection. I think that this weakening is a result of conduct, which the opposition has demonstrated so far. The realities are in that a significant part of Azerbaijani opposition exists as a virtual space. They are quite far from the realities of Azerbaijan, from the interests, thoughts and desires of Azerbaijani voters," said Ahmedov.

According to him, every political organization can gain support only among voters, but the radical wing of the Azerbaijani opposition is busy with its internal problems created by the opposition itself. These problems have distracted them so that they have stayed away from public processes.

"From year to year, the NAP strengthens its position in Azerbaijan and increases its ranks. Today, the party brings together about 530,000 people. This is a great force. Unification of half a million people in the NAP indicates that the belief of society in Heydar Aliyev's ideas, on which the party relies, is indestructible," said Ahmedov.

Ahmedov also called 2010 successful for NAP in the field of international relations.
