23 December 2010 [19:24] - TODAY.AZ
Next year Belarus hopes to intensify its cooperation with Azerbaijan even more, Belarusian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Nikolai Paskevich said at a press conference today.

With this purpose in mind the Belarusian governmental delegation is expected to visit Baku at the ministerial level, the diplomat said.

"The end of this year was eventful. And the issue is not that the eight agreements were signed during the Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko's official visit to Azerbaijan (June 2010), but the fact that the main directions of cooperation between the two countries were defined," Paskevich said.

The diplomat referred to the cooperation between the two countries as progress in the humanitarian sphere, and as one of the important features of the year. According to him, the number of visits of delegations of both countries in many areas increased.

The Belarusian Embassy in Azerbaijan is also actively working towards awarding participants of the Great Patriotic War, fought in Belarus.

Today six Azerbaijani veterans of the Great Patriotic War, who participated in the liberation of Belarus from fascist invaders, were awarded in the Embassy in the presence of journalists.

Over two years the embassy awarded about 300 Azerbaijani veterans who fought for the liberation of Belarus.
