Il Foglio newspaper apologizes to First Lady of Azerbaijan

Italian newspaper Il Foglio published a material titled “Set of apologies to Baku” in which are made apologies to the First Lady of Azerbaijan, to the President of Azerbaijan and all Azerbaijani people in connection with replication of false information, earlier published on pages of the mentioned edition.

At the very beginning of article the newspaper specifies that the said editorial publication is a refutation of the unworthy article published on December 3 on pages of the newspaper and containing false and slanderous information on the First Lady of Azerbaijan.

“On December 3 our newspaper published a frivolous article concerning the life of spouse of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic that has caused very negative reaction in Baku for what our small newspaper can only regret.

By this article we want to express our apologies to the First Lady of Azerbaijan, to the UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, president of the heydar Aliyev Foundation and member of Azerbaijan Parliament Mehriban Aliyeva, to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and also all Azerbaijani people who in their letters and appeals via e-mail have let us to know about the high devotedness to the First Lady of the country and the pain concerning damage to her reputation”, the article-refutation marks.

“We didn`t wish publication of such a frivolous article and have shown carelessness, having used the unconfirmed information of the WikiLeaks site. We didn`t want that this information was replicated in blogs and on sites, and we regret concerning the resonance caused by our publication.

As our sources have appeared absolutely unreliable, our article isn`t worthy as a matter of fact and is absolutely unreliable on the form and content. As the reason of publication consists in our carelessness, we recognize the error and with pleasure we publish this refutation with appropriate apologies.

We are convinced that fine relations and mutual sympathy and consent between Italian and Azerbaijani peoples won`t suffer because of our journalistic mistake.

And at last, quoting known Azerbaijani poet Mohammed Fizuli, we want to tell: “So let`s leave the pain behind, together with cold days of winter”, the article marks.
