OSCE Assessment Mission's report may be discussed at the UN on request of Azerbaijan

22 December 2010 [16:19] - TODAY.AZ
“Postponed discussion over Nagorno Karabakh conflict at the UN General Assembly should be regarded as normal”, Permanent representative of Azerbaijan to UN, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev said.

According to him, every year, when the session starts, the secretariat fixes dates of issues on the agenda. Then, a country or an organization related to this issue selects appropriate date and presents that date to the secretariat as a day of discussion: “We have the same situation. We did not want this issue to be discussed on December 13. Because, I have repeatedly announced that we are waiting for a report of the fact-finding mission that visited the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. After the report is prepared and presented to Azerbaijani side, we will express our opinion. As soon as we get acquainted with the report, we will make decision depending on its essence”.

While responding question on whether the UN will discuss the report of OSCE Assessment Mission on situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan or not, the ambassador said that this issue depends on Azerbaijan: “Discussion at the UN depends on us. I don’t want to say anything beforehand. Let us receive the report, look through it, assess and then return to this issue. I may distribute this report among the member states”.

Remind that, the report prepared by OSCE Assessment Mission in 2005 was discussed at the UN and appropriate document was passed on it.
