Azerbaijani Ombudsman Appeals to Interior Minister

Azerbaijani Ombudsman appealed to the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry and the Interior Ministry of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. She called to investigate the facts of beating a citizen by the police.

Sahavat Aliyev, a resident of Baku, appealed to Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova. He said that his close relatives were beaten by police. He also added that his brother Sabit Aliyev has been detained by Sharur region police without any cause or court decision since November 14, for seven days, the Ombudsman's office told Trend.

The complainant said that his close relatives were beaten by police officers of Sharur region on Dec. 10. Their home, and a part of their shop were destroyed by the tractor.

According to the appeal, the police did not allow the relatives, injured on December 10, to get necessary medical care. The complainant appealed to the Ombudsman to investigate an incident and provide appropriate assistance in punishing the perpetrators.

The Ombudsman called for the Interior Ministry to investigate the complaint. If these incidents are confirmed, appropriate action against perpetrators must be taken, assistance must be provided and information on the measures must be given.
