The European Committee of Social Rights today published its 2010 Conclusions in respect of the states parties to the Revised Social Charter, CE press service reported.

In 2010 the European Committee of Social Rights examined reports on the application of the Revised Social Charter by the following states: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine. The European Social Charter is a Council of Europe treaty which guarantees social and economic human rights. It was adopted in 1961 and revised in 1996. The Charter provides people of all countries of the Council of Europe with the same rights in all spheres of everyday life, including the right to housing, health, education, employment, social protection, personal travel of citizens and protection from discrimination.

The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) is the body responsible for monitoring compliance in States Parties.

Azerbaijan became a member of the Council of Europe - the largest European organization in the sphere of democracy and human rights - in 2001, assuming the corresponding obligations.

In 2011, the Committee will examine Charter rights related to children, families and migrants. 2011 is also the 50th anniversary of the European Social Charter.
