Azerbaijani held in Guanatanmo prison granted asylum in a third country

The Azerbaijani held in Guantanamo prison refused to return to his country. Spokesperson for Azerbaijan office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Ilaha Huseynova said he was granted asylum in a third country.

APA has obtained information that Polad Sirajov is now in Slovakia.

Polad Sirajov graduated from the School of Economics at Erciyez University, Turkey and worked for the Turkish company operated in Russia. He left home in 2001 and never returned. His family was informed in January, 2002 that he was arrested together with Taliban members and sent to Guantanamo prison. The representatives of the ICRC met with Polad Sirajov several times.

In 2009 US President Barack Obama issued an order to shut down the Guanatanamo prison. The majority of the prisoners were released after the order. Polad Sirajov was also pardoned.
