A meeting of the Council of Elders of Turkic-speaking countries was held in Astana.

The meeting has brought together public figures, politicians, writers and scholars from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan. The participants discussed common history of Turkic-speaking states.
The Council of Elders was established on the initiative of the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the Summit of the Heads of Turkic-speaking countries in Nakhchivan. It functions as a part of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking countries.
