Azerbaijani CEC recognizes election results in 46 polling stations as invalid

22 November 2010 [14:43] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani Central Election Commission recognized the election results in 46 polling stations as invalid.
"The CEC after the voting day has considered appeals received in connection with the parliamentary elections, and decided to annul the election results in 46 polling stations of 20 constituencies," the CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said today at the Commission's final meeting.

Azerbaijan held the parliamentary elections Nov. 7.

The CEC Secretary Natig Mammadov on the final meeting said that the current parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan have been marked by a number of innovations, including the provision of all candidates with free airtime. He also noted that at these parliamentary elections, the opposition candidates were more than the ruling party's candidates.

The CEC member Mikail Rahimli said at the meeting that these elections have been held at a qualitatively higher level than the previous elections. According to him, at the same time a system for considering appeals received by the CEC on election day should be improved by the next elections.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commission member Ogtay Humbatov noted that the practice of providing free airtime to all candidates proved itself, and it should be widely applied in the future.

The Central Election Commission today is expected to adopt and submit to the Constitutional Court the results of parliamentary elections.
