Secretary General of the Council of Europe welcomes release of Azerbaijan bloggers

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland welcomes the release of Azerbaijani bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh, according to website of the Council of Europe.

“I am pleased that Emin (Milli) Abdullayev, the second of the bloggers and youth activists arrested in July 2009, has been released from jail by decision of the court sitting in the Salyan prison colony. Emin’s release, following so swiftly on the release of his fellow-blogger Adnan Hajizadeh, is welcomed by everyone concerned about Azerbaijan’s commitment to uphold freedom of expression, which is a fundamental right protected by the European Convention on Human Rights. These very positive developments would be more significant if the Azerbaijani authorities were now to release Eynulla Fatullayev, in line with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights,” Secretary General said.
