Azerbaijan's ruling party: Security cooperation in Caspian Sea meets Azerbaijan's national interests

Azerbaijan signed an agreement on security cooperation in the Caspian Sea  based on national interests, New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary Mubariz Gurbanli, said to the party's offficial website.

Baku hosted the summit of the Caspian countries - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. After the summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed the agreement on security cooperation in the Caspian Sea and the joint statement.

"The proposals put forward for security in the Caspian and the agreements reached of great importance for the littoral states," he added.

Mubariz Gurbanli said the preservation of peace and security in the region and turning of the Caspian Sea in the demilitarized water basin coincides with the interests of Azerbaijan and other countries. "The Agreement on Cooperation in the field of security serves to the idea of creating peace and stability in the Caspian Sea," he said.

Gurbanli believes the Baku summit and the documents signed, are of great importance.
