Azerbaijani Speaker meets Iraqi Trade Minister

Speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament Ogtay Asadov praised political relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq in a meeting with visiting Minister of Trade Safa Al-Din Muhammad Al-Safi. The Speaker said reciprocal visits would contribute to developing other fields.

Asadov noted Azerbaijan`s peacekeeping forces served in Iraq.

The speaker said the death of Iraqi civilians as a result of terror attacks was a source of great sorrow to Azerbaijan peoples. He also informed Al-Safi about the terror attacks and genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis.

Asadov said trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iraq made up 47 million US dollars, but it falls short of the existing potential.

“We hope new documents signed will help intensify trade relations.”

The Iraqi Minister congratulated the Yeni Azerbaijan Party on winning the parliamentary elections. Al-Safi described Azerbaijani peacekeeping forces`s serving in Iraq as a vivid evidence of Azerbaijan`s support to the people of Iraq.
