Azerbaijani ambassador to Canada Farid Shafiev visited Vancouver (British Columbia) on September 14-18, the embassy of Azerbaijan in Canada said.

During his visit the ambassador met with the Minister of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development of British Columbia Iain Black, DM Don Fast, representatives of the mayor of Vancouver, the Head of the Trade Council Grayden Hayward and the Head of the Commission for Economic Cooperation in Vancouver John Tylee. During the meetings the sides discussed prospects of cooperation in trade and economic spheres between Azerbaijan and the Province of British Columbia.
Also, the ambassador visited the University of British Columbia (UBC). During meetings with representatives of the University the importance of developing cooperation between UBC and Azerbaijani universities was stressed.
The presentation of economic and investment opportunities in Azerbaijan with the support of Business Association of Canada-Eurasia-Russia was held during the visit. Speaking at the presentation, Ambassador Shafiev informed the participants about the broad opportunities and major economic projects that exist in Azerbaijan.
In the framework of the visit to Province, ambassador visited the second largest city in the province - Surrey (Surrey), where he held meetings with the head of the Trade Council of the City - Nigel Watkinson and local administration representatives.
Ambassador F. Shafiev also met with representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora of Vancouver. Following the visit Shafiev gave an interview to a local CKNW radio station, in which he informed listeners about religious tolerance and other successes achieved in Azerbaijan.
