Azerbaijan's interior minister meets Iraq's new ambassador

Interior Minister of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov met Iraq's new ambassador Heydar Shiya Gubeysi al-Barrak on Aug. 25.
Usubov briefed the Ambassador on the Interior Ministry's structure and workings. He said laws are adopted in his country taking into consideration the European standards and opinions of international experts.

He pointed out the ongoing democratic reforms in Azerbaijan aims at ensuring human rights and freedoms.

The minister emphasized the necessity of joint efforts to fight international terrorism, illegal drug turnover, human trafficking and illegal migration. He underlined that Azerbaijan is one of the active members of the anti-terror coalition.

He also wished the Iraqi government and people peace and prosperity.

The ambassador said friendly relations between Iraq and Azerbaijan were deeply rooted.

He noted the Iraqi police should learn the experience of their Azerbaijani counterparts.

The diplomat also emphasized the importance of signing protocols of intention between relevant bodies of the two countries.

The sides discussed other issues of mutual concern.
