TurkPA as "international observer" in Azerbaijani parliamentary elections

The Turkic-speaking countries' Parlaimentary Assembly (TurkPA) will participate in the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan as an international observer. This, reportedly was said by the Secretary General of TurkPA Ramil Hasanov at a meeting with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

"TurkPA will participate as an international observer also at the constitutional referendum, to be held in Turkey, on September 12," Hasanov said.

He said in late August the TurkPA's delegation is expected to visit Kyrgyzstan.

"A meeting is scheduled with the Kyrgyz President Rosa Otunbayeva. Talks will be held regarding TurkPA's participation as an international observer in the parliamentary elections in the country, to be held in late October," Hasanov pointed out.  

He stressed that the TurkPA's delegation will pay a visit to Turkmenistan in September. "During the visit, the Turkmen leadership will be familiarized with the Assembly's annual activity. Turkmenistan will be invited to join the TurkPA," said Hasanov.

Hasanov informed Mammadyarov that holding the TurkPA's next plenary session is scheduled for March, 2011 in Astana. He said, that at the session, 3 standing committees will be created, a chairman, deputies and members of committees will be elected, secretaries of the committees will be appointed, a program of the TurkPA's activity for 2011-2012, as well as a decision on the Assembly's emblem and attributes will be adopted.

Given Azerbaijan's presidency in TurkPA during visits to foreign countries and its activity in Azerbaijan within international cooperation Hasanov expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani Government and the Foreign Ministry for providing all necessary conditions for the Assembly's delegation by the Azerbaijani diplomatic missions.

Mammadyarov thanked Hasanov for extensive information.

"Establishment of the Assembly, full support in its activity and Secretary's activity in Baku are of great importance. The Azerbaijani Government will continue to support the TurkPA activity both inside the country and abroad through its diplomatic missions," Mammadyarov said.
