President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of congratulation to French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy as his country celebrates Bastille Day.

In his letter, the Head of State said “the Azerbaijan-France relations enjoy all-round development”.
“Our steps towards strengthening the intergovernmental relations are accompanied by dynamic and effective cooperation both on the bilateral level and within the European Union's programs,” the Azerbaijani leader said.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that the humanitarian area occupies an important place in multifaceted ties between the two countries.
“In this sense, events, which you plan to hold as part of a “Season of Azerbaijan's culture” in your country, will undoubtedly contribute to bringing our nations closer to each other, once more proving that their national-cultural heritage assumes a universal importance.”
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the President said “the fact that the results of the conflict, which led to the violation of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and occupation of our lands, have not yet been eliminated remains the most painful problem of ours.”
“We pin great hopes on efforts of France as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and on you personally in finding a peaceful, prompt and fair resolution to the conflict on the basis of international legal norms.”
President Ilham Aliyev wished the French leader “robust health and successes” in his activities and “the friendly people of France peace and prosperity”.
