Baku to host SPECA member states ministerial

Baku will host a meeting of Ministers of the member countries of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in early December, head of the board of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development Samir Valiyev said.

Assessment of needs in trade and human development in Azerbaijan and other SPECA countries, presented on Thursday in Baku, has been prepared.

"All these assessments for each country will be considered in Baku December 1-2 at a meeting of SPECA member-countries ", Valiyev said.

He said that the final report is planned to be adopted within the meeting. The declaration will be signed. The projects financed by donors are likely to be implemented on the basis of the declaration.

He said that Azerbaijan's GDP increased by 4.5% in Jan-May 2010 and its volume per capita - by 3,1%. The volume of trade of the country within five months amounted to $10.6 billion. During this period, Azerbaijan had trade relations with 126 countries, and foreign trade surplus amounted to $5.8 billion. The volume of trade of the country increased by 53.5%, exports - by 78 percent, and imports - by 4.4% compared to 2009.

Azerbaijan expressed the initiative to join the mechanism through trade of UN and WTO to expand export capacity and trade relations in the region in 2008.
