U.S. Department of State reiterates its position on so-called elections in Nagorno-Karabakh

28 May 2010 [09:56] - TODAY.AZ
“The independence of Nagorno-Karabakh hasn't been recognized by the United States or any other nations. The so-called parliamentary elections held in Nagorno-Karabakh shouldn't prejudge the final legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh in terms of talks on the settlement to the conflict,” said Robert Hilton, spokesman of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State.

“The United States remains committed to its mandate of working with Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group aimed at finding a solution to the Karabakh conflict under principles of the Helsinki Final Act on the non-use of force and respect for territorial integrity and self-determination,” he said.

On May 24 the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minks Group made a statement on the “elections” in Nagorno-Karabakh. It said “the elections” shouldn`t become an obstacle to determination of the further status of Nagorno-Karabakh.
