25 May 2010 [17:17] - TODAY.AZ
The greatest benefit of my visit is that I once again will inform the international community about the problem of the Azeri IDPs, representative of the UN Secretary General on the human rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) Walter Kalin told a joint news conference with Azerbaijan's deputy prime minister, chairman of State Committee on refugee and IDPs affairs Ali Hasanov n Baku. Kalin reassured the Azeri deputy PM that UN and its bodies would continue their support to Azerbaijan.

Hasanov highlighted purpose of Kalin's visit, and his meetings with officials and IDPs. He said Kalin will develop a report on results of his visit and submit it to UN Human Rights Council. The deputy Premier stated that the UN official could see in place that the Azerbaijani government executed previous recommendations made by international organizations.

“He made sure that Azerbaijani government respects decisions of UN bodies, and enjoys cooperation based on mutual confidence. The visit will once more prove that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not solved, and a problem concerning Azerbaijani IDPs still exists.”

In response to a question on the UN Security Council`s relevant resolutions on the conflict, the representative of the UN Secretary General reiterated that those resolutions remain in force.
“The Security Council charged the OSCE Minsk Group with peace talks. The Group has developed the model principles. Azerbaijan has accepted them. Now, the key issue is to reach an agreement between the sides.”

“I will call on international community to strengthen their efforts towards the conflict resolution. I call on conflict sides to take IDPs into consideration when the problem is solved. The UN has many-branched activity. We are ready to help Azerbaijan,” added Kalin.
