“Romania has reaffirmed its primary and fair stance on the “parliamentary elections” held by the Nagorno-Karabakh separatist regime in the occuopied Azerbaijani territories on May 23,” the Romanian embassy in Azerbaijan said in a statement.

“During discussions on the so-called “parliamentary elections” held within the framework of the European Union, Romania insisted on necessity of European Union’s expressing its attitude on this issue. As result, in support for Romania’s initiative, EU High Representative for Foreign Affaiirs and Security Catherine Ashton made a statement on the “elections” held by the separatist regime,” the embassy said.

“Romania condemned “presidential” and “parliamentary” elections in the occupied Azerbaijani lands, did not recognize their legitimacy and announced their negative impact on peace talks and voiced support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in previous years as well.”

“Azerbaijan highly appreciates the level of cooperation ties based on strategic partnership and mutual support and Romania’s fair and supportive position,” the embassy said.
