Azerbaijan, Austria discuss prospects of customs cooperation

Visiting Chairman of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev met with State Secretary of Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance Reinhold Lopatka. Lopatka, who is in charge of customs affairs at the ministry, praised economic progress in Azerbaijan.

The State Secretary stated “amidst a global financial crisis, Austria was forced to close its diplomatic missions in some countries, but plans to open an embassy in Baku.”

“It shows how much importance we attach to cooperation with Azerbaijan,” he said.
Lopatka added Austrian business delegation`s recent visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to further expansion of bilateral ties.

Aydin Aliyev said Azerbaijan`s economy is “rapidly” developing, the country is expanding its foreign ties. According to him, volume of import and export is increasing. He noted the Customs Committee is “very much” interested in cooperation with Europe`s respective structures.

The chairman said the World Customs Organization plans to open its regional office in Baku. Aliyev invited his Austrian colleague to attend its opening ceremony. They also exchanged views on signing memorandum of understanding concerning cooperation. Azerbaijan's ambassador to Austria Fuad Ismayilov was present at the meeting.
