PACE Monitoring Committee hears report on Azerbaijan

19 May 2010 [18:46] - TODAY.AZ
The report on the democratic institutions in Azerbaijan has been made today within the framework of the meeting of PACE Monitoring Committee in Paris. The report was prepared by PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and Joseph Debono Grech. Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told APA that the discussions on the report were constructive enough.

“This report was balanced compared with the previous ones. Despite this, the Azerbaijani delegation objected to some points in the report. I think it is difficult to agree to some points in the report. Azerbaijani delegation also attended the discussions. We expressed our position on the points that we accepted and the points we did not consider objective enough. We offered several changes to the report and these offers were mainly accepted. Unlike the report, most members of the Monitoring Committee have objective approach to the happenings in Azerbaijan. This is a paradox, we observe for the first time,” he said.

Samad Seyidov publicized the concrete points that caused discontent of the Azerbaijani side.
“These points comprise unconstructive cooperation. Use of the Monitoring Committee’s report as a means of pressure on Azerbaijan’s policy is inadmissible for us,” he said.

The report on Azerbaijan will be published in June.
