Jubilee of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to be marked in St Petersburg

Arriving in St. Petersburg for the event to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), the NAR delegation held an official meeting in the National Library of Russia.

"The event is co-organized by the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, representation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Russia and the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in St Petersburg," the press center of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in St Petersburg told Trend on May 14.

Chief of Staff of the NAR Supreme Assembly, Ali Hasanov, provided extensive information on the socio-economic development of the Autonomous Republic. On behalf of the Chairman of the NAR Supreme Assembly Vasif Talibov, Hasanov presented to the National Library of Russia books about the history of Nakhchivan, its culture and literature.

Consul General of Azerbaijan Gudsi Osmanov said Nakhchivan people actively participate in social and economic life of St. Petersburg.

The delegation also met with the chairman of the committee on foreign relations of St Petersburg Administration Alexander Prokhorenko.

"Hasanov expressed gratitude on behalf of Talibov for the conditions created for the event on the anniversary of the Autonomous Republic," the same source said.

Head of the delegation noted that the Autonomous Republic has been under the siege as a result Nagorno-Karabakh conflict provoked by Armenia over the years like Leningrad which had been cut off from the outside world for 900 days during World War II.

Prokhorenko described as appropriate the participation of the delegation of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at the meeting of the inter-governmental commission of St. Petersburg administration and the Azerbaijan Republic, which will take place in the fourth quarter of the year in Baku, the report said.
