Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan hosted a celebration in honor of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

Greeting the veterans, the Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin thanked them for their great victory.
"I welcome veterans who bore the hardships of this war on their shoulders. The victory was achieved thanks to the fact that the Soviet people stood all tests," Dorokhin said.
The ambassador appreciated Azerbaijan's significant contribution to victory in this war.
"We know about 600,000 called to the front from Azerbaijan and 200,000 of them had not returned. Some 121 peoples from Azerbaijan received the title Hero of the Soviet Union", - the ambassador said.
According to him, during the war the nationality of soldiers was not important.
"I am glad that we celebrate the anniversary of Victory in Azerbaijan, where this day is celebrated as a great national holiday thanks to President Ilham Aliyev," Dorokhin said.
During the event in the Embassy 27 veterans, who are Russian citizens and live in Azerbaijan were awarded. They were awarded with anniversary medals. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's greetings and congratulations were conveyed to them.
