Azerbaijani ambassador addresses special non aligned movement ministerial meeting

Azerbaijan's ambassador to Indonesia and the Philippines has addressed Special Non Aligned Movement Ministerial Meeting on Interfaith Dialogue and Cooperation for Peace and Development in Manila.

In his remarks, Ibrahim Hajiyev said Azerbaijan respected all international conventions on freedom of religion and human rights.

“The freedom of religion and belief is inscribed in our constitution,” he said.

The ambassador praised what the Azerbaijani President had been doing to strengthen the protection of human rights and freedoms and tolerance in the country.

Hajiyev said: “Last November Baku hosted an international conference on interfaith dialogue and cooperation. President Ilham Aliyev made remarks at the meeting, saying “representatives of difference nations live as one family in Azerbaijan, contributing to its development.”

He also said that the religious tolerance reigning in the country was the product of independence Azerbaijan`s policy.”

The ambassador also highlighted consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Twenty percent of our territories have still been under Armenian occupation, with over million Azerbaijanis becoming refugees and IDPs.”

Hajiyev thanked Non Aligned Movement states for supporting Azerbaijan`s stance on the dispute.
