Russian Presidential Administration chief: Russia is ready to support initiative to give status of hero-city to Baku

23 December 2009 [10:08] - TODAY.AZ
Russian Presidential Administration chief says Russia is ready to support initiative to give status of hero-city to Baku.
“In the times of the USSR the country leadership used to pass a decision giving status of hero-city based on proposals of veteran organizations," Russian Presidential Administration Chief Vladimir Kojin said.

"Today Azerbaijan is an independent state. Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani people, particularly Baku gave as great contribution to the victory as Tbilisi, Yerevan and other cities. Suffice it to say who raised the flag of victory over Reichstag,” Kojin said at the press conference.

He said the issue on giving the status of hero-city should be first of all solved by leadership of states.

“If there are such initiatives, Russian leadership will certainly support them. But the decision depends on country leadership and public, also from Azerbaijani leadership and public,” he said.

Kojin said unofficial summit of CIS heads of state will be held in Moscow on May 8.

The heads of state will attend the events on the 65th anniversary of the victory.

He said along with Moscow military parade will be held in all hero-cities.
