Azerbaijan plays vital role in ensuring security in Afghanistan: U.S. diplomat

“Azerbaijan plays important role in the coalition's efforts. Its brave soldiers have served in Afghanistan alongside NATO forces since 2002. Azerbaijan`s doubling its contingent in Afghanistan suggests Azerbaijan is a supporter of peace,” said U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires Donald Lu.

According to Lu, US President Barack Obama has announced a new Afghan strategy in order to restore stability in this country and strike terrorists.

In a speech at the US Military Academy at West Point, President Obama announced the deployment of about 30,000 additional troops to fight the Taliban.
