Turkey backs OSCE Minsk Group mediation efforts: FM

02 December 2009 [14:16] - TODAY.AZ
“Unresolved conflicts in the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia threaten security of whole European continent," Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in his speech at today’s meeting of OSCE Ministerial Council.

He noted the conflicts had emerged over different reasons and parameters of each conflict must particularly be approached.

"But at the same time, common international principles should also be taken into consideration while resolving conflicts. Adhering to the territorial integrity underlies all the solutions. In this context, I would like to express Turkey’s support to OSCE Minsk Group," the minister said.

"We ask both parties to achieve result as soon as possible. Turkey believes that increasing efforts towards resolving the conflict will bring lasting peace and stability to the region and will promote mutual rapprochement between the countries."

"Georgia events in 2008 showed that conflicts called “frozen” are not “frozen” at all," the Turkish foreign minister said.
