Azerbaijan’s Umid Party to nominate over 2,500 candidates for municipal elections

“We have already decided to participate in the elections,” Chief of Azerbaijan’s opposition Umid Party Igbal Agazade said commenting on his party’s participation in the coming municipal elections.
“We have registered over 2,000 candidates in nearly 800 municipalities,” he said.

Agazade said party’s candidates are currently collecting signatures.

Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections on Dec. 23. Elections will be held for 15, 682 places in the 1, 718 municipalities. All voters besides those with the status of internally displaced persons are illegible to participate in the municipal elections. Voting will take place in 118 constituencies.

Starting from Oct. 8 individuals participating in the municipal elections can nominate for the elections. The campaign to collect signatures will continue till Nov. 13.

Those who nominate themselves as candidates must submit signatures of voters to the election commissions no later than Nov. 13.

Lists with signatures received after this date will not be accepted

According to the schedule, the registration of observers in the CEC will continue until Dec. 13 and in the district electoral commissions - till Dec. 18.

Organizations willing to hold “exit poll” are required submit documents to the CEC till Dec. 3.
