Any elections are very important for political parties: Azerbaijani parliamentarian

"The list of candidates for municipal elections was defined at the meeting of political council of our party,” Chairman of the opposition Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party (ADRP) and member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Asim Mollazade said.
He said presently candidates design signature sheets.

 "I think a few more candidates will be added to the total number of candidates nominated by us, and their total number will be several hundred people. We will try to cover half of all urban municipalities. The exact number of our candidates will be determined after the registration completes,” the MP said.

Mollazade said that after this the party will continue to prepare for the participation of candidates in municipal elections.
"We have already held several workshops and trainings for our regional organizations in Baku. We will continue to conduct joint training with international organizations,” he said.

The ADRP chairman also noted importance of the upcoming municipal elections.

"I think any elections are very important for political parties to be in the form they need. Also, I think municipalities are foundation of democracy, because in any society, democracy does not begin from the top, but vice versa,” Mollazade said.

Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections on Dec. 23. Elections will be held for 15, 682 places in the 1, 718 municipalities. All voters besides those with the status of internally displaced persons are illegible to participate in the municipal elections. Voting will take place in 118 constituencies.

Starting from Oct. 8 individuals participating in the municipal elections can nominate for the elections. The campaign to collect signatures will continue till Nov. 13.

Those who nominate themselves as candidates must submit signatures of voters to the election commissions no later than Nov. 13.

Lists with signatures received after this date will not be accepted

According to the schedule, the registration of observers in the CEC will continue until Dec. 13 and in the district electoral commissions - till Dec. 18.

Organizations willing to hold “exit poll” are required submit documents to the CEC till Dec. 3.
