President of Azerbaijan: "Referendum is a democratic procedure reflecting people's will"

People's right to vote for the possible election of one and the same person as a president of the country for more than twice is among the democratic principles, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the interview to famous US Wall Street Journal.

At the same time, he said holding a referendum meets the European experience.

Answering the question about introduction of limits on broadcasting of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan, the head of the state said that no one prohibited these stations to cover Azerbaijan.

"This is not a ban. These radio stations can continue their transmission on short waves. Moreover, they can also continue broadcasting via Internet and use cable and satellite capacities for the purpose", said Aliyev.

According to him, in 2002 the National Television and Radio Council basing on the law not allowing broadcasting of foreign radio stations on the national frequencies of Azerbaijan.

According to the president, the opinion that Azerbaijan allegedly banned the broadcasting of these foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan, formed due to the incorrect information in foreign mass media.

"But we did not prohibit their broadcasting, we just brought this process in conformity to the working law. On par, we studied the situation in Europe and it has the same picture", said Aliyev.

"We do not restrict the activity of media in Azerbaijan, we are just bringing it in compliance with the local regulations and norms, existing in Europe", said the President.
