Hafiz Pashayev: "Azerbaijan is for intensification of activity for cooperation with US"

13 August 2008 [12:41] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan is for intensification of activity for cooperation with US, said deputy foreign minister Hafiz Pashayev, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.
"Relations between Azerbaijan and US are intensively developing but we would like to raise them on a higher level", said Pashayev at an international conference "Azerbaijanis and Americans-as we see each others".

"Conduction of such conferences is of special importance as Azerbaijan and US are in the threshold of presidential elections.

I think few in Azerbaijan have doubts about results of the upcoming elections in October", said the deputy Minister.

The conference participants, including state structures, public figures and political scientists of Azerbaijan as well as representatives of leading US medias stressed the need to settle the problem of deficit of information about Azerbaijan for ordinary Americans.

As one of US journalists Micheal Totten noted it is especially important, considering Azerbaijan's positive experience in most spheres, including public tolerance to representatives of other nations and religions.

"While visiting Azerbaijan we were astonished with the level of religious tolerance. The US society considers it impossible to overcome differences between Muslim world and Jews and thinks that there is no hope for normalization of relations between them. Now what we have seen in Azerbaijan gives us this hope", concluded Pashayev.
