Candidate for US presidency John McCain accuses Russia of attempts to bomb BTC pipeline

12 August 2008 [10:23] - TODAY.AZ
US senator and Republican candidate for US President John McCain accused Russia of attempts to bomb the international Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline passing Georgia.
"We have strategic interests in Georgia, especially continuation of oil flow by the BTC pipeline, which Russia has recently attempted to bomb", said McCain Monday during his speech in the Pennsylvania state.

According to RIA Novosti, the senator stated the need for the joint activity of the United States, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other concerned states for strengthening the pipeline security.

McCain also warned of the threat to Ukraine, posed by Russia's actions.

"The United States in cooperation with its ally partners should hold urgent consultations with the Ukrainian government and other concerned states about the steps on ensuring preservation of their independence. It is especially important considering that a number of Black Sea vessels of Russia, which are now in the territorial waters of Georgia, are of the Russian base in the Ukraine Crimea.
