Arif Hajili: "Musavat party can start conduction of unsanctioned protests"

15 May 2008 [17:38] - TODAY.AZ
The Musavat opposition party, functioning in Azerbaijan, has not yet obtained permission for holding a protest on May 18.
The due announcement was made by head of party's central office Arif Hajili.

He said in line with the law, the party should obtain permission today, yet no definite response has been received so far.

Asked whether the party will hold unsanctioned actions in case if the city administration refuses to sanction the action, Hajili said the following:

"Naturally, we do not want to oppose powers in such conditions, yet the refusal to sanction our protests, makes us to start them, as the refusal itself proves the violation of the law "On Freedom of Assembly".

Moreover, the need to hold unsanctioned protests is rising, therefore the party can start them. It is early to say when we will start conducting them", he noted.
