Nongovernmental organization "Elections Monitoring Center" prohibited to monitor presidential elections in Azerbaijan

14 May 2008 [15:54] - TODAY.AZ
The Khatai district court of Baku annulled registration of the Elections Monitoring Center Wednesday on the basis of the claim filed by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice.
The plaintiff explained the appeal to the court by the "uncertainty of information" in the constituent documents of the organization.

Head of the Center Abar Mamedli rejected the claims. He said the organization was registered three months ago and the Ministry of Justice did not request any additional information while studying the documents.

Mamedli considers that the case is politically motivated and pursus the purpose of preventing the officials of the Center from the parallel calculations of votes at the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, scheduled for October.

The center joins ENEMO-European Network of Monitoring Organizations, functioning under OSCE auspices.
