Qudrat Hasanquliyev: "The US Embassy finances different parties of Azerbaijan by implication"

Day.Az reports that the due announcement was made by chairman of the Azerbaijan Single Popular Front Party Qudrat Hasanquliyev.

Touching upon the US plans to allot about $3,000,000 for assistance of democratic processes in Azerbaijan, he said that usually the grants are alloted to nongovernmental organizations, which are close to these of those candidates and thus, the US embassy finances different parties by implication.

"This is not a secret for anyone. By means of the National Democratic Institute, cooperation is maintained with a small group of parties, which we call traditional opposition. They also observe the elections", said Hasanquliyev.

He noted that this contradicts to the constitution of Azerbaijan and violates the laws of the country. He considers that such financing creates unequal conditions among parties thus creating undemocratic conditions before elections.

"If finances are used in conditions of transparency, a group of observers representing candidates to president are created, and mechanism of public control is worked out,  the US initiative on allocation of $3 mln can be only welcomed.

The United States fairly demand from Azerbaijan the transparency in the use of oil revenues and should ensure transparency in the use of assets", said Hasanquliyev.
