Azerbaijan's opposition leaders intending to combat growth of prices on foodstuffs

Five opposition parties, functioning in Azerbaijan held a regular session yesterday.
Spokesman of the party for press and agitation Ali Orujev told Day.Az that during the session the sides discussed sociopolitical and socioeconomic situation in Azerbaijan, as well as the Karabakh problem.

The parties leaders agreed to create an expert group to study social and economic state, which would reveal common trends in the country and society.

"The parties, represented in this bloc, consider that the main reason of rise in prices on foodstuffs in Azerbaijan is connected with existing monopolies. This negative factor should be combatted, but such steps have not been carried out. Therefore, we intend to work in this direction", he noted.

The parties expressed anxiety that only surface, technical changes will be introduced to the Electoral Code. Moreover, the opposition protests against the decrease of term of the election campaign from four to two months and that the candidates, who gained less than 3% at presidential elections in 2003, and who failed to return money to the government, will not be allocated financial aid.

It should be noted that the bloc includes Musavat, Tereqqi, Azerbaijan Democratic Party, Azerbaijan National Independence Party and Public Forum "In the name of Azerbaijan".
