Moldavian President: "Official Kishinev always supported Azerbaijan and its territorial integrity" - UPDATED

Speaker of Moldavian parliament will visit Azerbaijan by invitation of chairman of Azerbaijani parliament Oqtay Asadov.

"I have invited speaker of Moldavian parliament to Azerbaijan for participation in the events on the 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani parliament, scheduled for June of 2008 and I am sure that he will accept my invitation", said Asadov at a meeting with Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin while discussing issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, the meeting participants also stressed that mutual visits will promote the development of inter-parliamentary relations.

According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin voiced support for Azerbaijan's position and its territorial integrity.

"Official Kishinev always supported and will further support Azerbaijan, its territorial integrity, as well as Azerbaijan's position within international organizations", Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin told at a meeting with Milli Medjlis speaker Oqtay Asadov.

The meeting participants discussed bilateral relations and further development of cooperation, as well as the role of inter-parliamentary relations in strengthening contacts between the two countries.

Asadov noted that both countries have conflict problems, such as Nagorno Karabakh and Transdniestria and expressed his gratitude for support of the resolution on territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, adopted at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.

In turn, Moldavian President noted that his country is actively cooperating with Azerbaijan on the discussed issues.

According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, visiting Baku and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took part in the official opening of Days of Moldavian culture in Azerbaijan.

The arrangement was held in the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev.

The leaders of the two countries shared views regarding development of mutual cooperation between Azerbaijan and Moldova, in particular, in humanitarian and cultural spheres.

The opening of Days was followed by a remarkable gala concert of the Moldavian men of art.

Issues of boosting economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Moldova were discussed in Baku on Wednesday during an official visit of Moldova President Vladimir Voronin.

The due announcement was made by both presidents by results of talks in the presidential palace in the capital city.

The presidents noted that they discussed cooperation in energy sector as well as a number of investment projects.

Vladimir Voronin stressed the existing legal basis for expansion of cooperation and noted possible entering new stages of economic interaction-joint exploration of reserves, as well as conduction of a session of the Azerbaijan-Moldova economic commission in Baku in the coming months.

According to Moldova President it would be desirable to open direct air flight Kishinev-Baku in the near future. Moldova President also invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to Kishinev.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stressed that the positions of the two countries coincide on most issues.

"We have discussed resolution of conflicts in different countries and consider that the conflicts should be settled in the framework of the territorial integrity of the countries. Centers of separatism will be terminated, which will promote the development of the region", said Aliyev.

President of Azerbaijan also evaluated support of official Kishinev while voting on resolution on Karabakh in the UN General Assembly.

In the framework of a two day visit to Azerbaijan the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Moldova will have a one-on-one meeting and an expanded meeting on Wednesday.

Following the meeting the sides are expected to sign a number of documents on cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of energy and fuel, as well as mutual exchange of information in the sphere of combat with economic and tax crimes.

The Moldovan president is expected to take part in the opening ceremony of the Days of Moldovan culture in Azerbaijan.

In the framework of the visit to Baku, Voronin will also hold talks with chairman of Azerbaijani parliament Oqtay Asadov, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Rovnaq Abdullayev.
