Rasul Guliyev's party to boycott elections in case no changes in Azerbaijan are observed

15 April 2008 [14:34] - TODAY.AZ
"We decided to take part in the presidential elections at the recent session of the Open Society Party. However, if the situation does not change until May, the party will boycott the elections".

The due announcement was made by party deputy chairman Yagub Abbasov.

"In the current conditions, no one pays special attention to the presidential elections. Only 10-15 unpopular representatives of political parties expressed intention to take part in the elections. It is senseless for such a worthy candidate as Rasul Guliyev to rival them.

We do not want to take part in the elections just for participation. The party wants to be worthily represented and conduct normal struggle with the opponent. This requires cardinal reforms, there is a need to present offices to opposition parties for normal political activity, stop enmity between the authorities and opposition and consider law "On freedom of assembly".

If political situation does not change, Rasul Guliyev's party will boycott the elections", noted he.
